The girl walked passed the stands on the market, looking at all the things that were for sale. There were quite some old and intriguing things, but she didn't buy anything. She walked another couple yards to then stop at another regular looking stand. "What are these?"

The man woke from his day dreaming of big piles of gold, and answered swiftly:

"Oh, these? I found them at an old cave when I was moving from one sector to another. They appealed to me so I tossed them to the cart."

"They'll come real cheap if you want them, since I can't find any use for them. I'll throw in a little extra too since your a first timer on my stand."

She crouched in front of the stand and looked closely at the items. "But. What are they?"

The man was puzzled, not really sure what to answer

"I quess they're magical or something, they were humming with a low frequensy sound when I found them, but stopped it as soon as I took them outside."

"I'm sure they're harmless outside that cave..." he tried to sound assuring.

She looked at one of them. "You mean they were humming like, low buzzing sort of? Odd."

He leaned really close to the woman and whispered: "And I could hear some strange noices coming from deeper in the cave when I took the items..."

"Maybe they belong to something living in the cave. Maybe it's the children of some unknown lifeform and you stole them. And who knows they only live in the presence of their mother. Or father. Or whatever it may be they came from."

The man shrudded the womans words off

"That's nonsense, I bet I would have been told if alien life forms existed on my trade routes, because they scour the lands so well these days."

"They're propably just some items that get powered by shadows or something."

The man suddenly stopped talking, realising he could attract more attention from others than he could handle. He was scared of the items, and what trouble he might get into from them.

"So shouldn't you put them back either way? I mean, trouble is trouble. Either you get the Xenon order here or an angry mama Alien rock thing."

"Sigh... I quess you're right, I'll deliver them first thing in the morning, I don't think they'll be missed by then."

"And you're gonna help me with these, you got into this too so you'll help, right? I promise I'll pay you a hefty amount of gold for it."

"And what should I be doing with gold? Or for that matter, how am I involved other than telling you it might be an alien? I'm not gonna go bring these back to angry mama."

"Well... well..."

The man went silent, and started mumbling

"Mama aliens.... living rocks...."

He tossed the little pieces into his backpack, got up and started walking with his cart towards the direction he had come from.

"I'll just go now, so I won't get killed by 'Aliens' for that matter. I just hope you're wrong and I'm right... And I hope that I'll have a different stock next time around."

She followed up on him and more or less stalked his cart as he walked. "Well, there's always the chance they could be tracking devices. Or maybe a remnant of an ancient culture we don't know about that only got discovered until that very day you found them. Anything you can think of what they could be?"

"Tracking devices sounds a bit far off, though not anything Umbrians wouldn't do."

"Ancient civilisations sound more like it, though it makes me wonder why haven't they been discovered before? And what were they to that civilisation? Just building material, left behind as remains from destruction?"

The man suddenly fell to the ground, as though being forced there.

She walked up next to him and knelt on the ground besides him. "It's not smart to go lie on the ground. If it helps you think, you could just take a nap in the cart. I'm sure it's a lot more comfortable."

"I didn't do this on my own you know, the pieces, they suddenly started feeling like, a houndred times heavier than they just were."

He left his backpack on the ground, and scratched his head.

"Yup, deffinetly some ancient artifacts right there. Must've been weapons for them or something, something that could hit your opponents hard when it landed."

"Yes but can't you see. They were lightweight to carry, then suddenly turned into freaking heavy. Just imagine what big chunks of this could do. I should try and get a better look at that, see if there's a switch or something I activated..."

"You had them in your bag, I doubt it's anything you did, but rather something you said that would have triggered them. Not that much different from a human body, you know. Reacts on impulses and does what it should do in that case. Maybe it's some defense mechanism against stealing them."

He opened the bag slowly, and noticed a weight difference as the light of day shined on them.

"Nah, I think it's something to do with the daylight, making them lighter to carry. Could be just speculation though."

"Maybe they really are living beings, afraid of the light of day?"

"Maybe, who knows. But isn't it odd then, that they didn't break through your stand just now? After all, they were in the sunlight there. Not directly, but. Close enough."

Then man started hastily walking towards his destination with only one goal in mind now, get rid of the pieces.

She followed him steadily. "But you can't say you're at least the slightest bit of interested in them? I mean, they went from just ordinary rocks to so many possible objects. Isn't it a bit exciting?"

"I wish I had the knowledge to study them more throughly, and I'm too scared of them right now..."

The man stopped for a second to clear his thoughts.

"If I get into trouble because of them, I can't even think about the consequenses."

"Or you could study them in secret. You don't think they learned all those things about the world and what's in it by putting everything they found back, do you? They didn't learn about the anatomy of humans by leaving the dead in the graves. They cut them open, dissected them and inspected all the organs, how blood reacted to things, how everything worked." She painted down a rather horrible and gross picture of how they first came across the human body and it's content.
