Time Alone

She walked through the streets that night, after having contacted her employer with her usual updates. Over the phone, the background noises seemed more frantic than usual. Well, it wasn't cause for her concern...she was just a disposable hired hand...so she gave up that train of thought and plopped down in the field she'd come across, sighing.

In a distance, the sound of a malfunctioning engine could be heard, closing in fast on where the girl was. Not much later an odd looking machine, a hull and 2 wings that were pointed downward, came closer to Dionaea, fast. It drew a thick line of smoke behind it and seared over her, to crashland a couple 100 yards further into the field, taking a tree with it as it managed to stop before going into the forest line. It laid there, smoking like crazy, a fire starting more or less in the engine, as 1 persona managed to crawl out and drag his friend with him, to then get caught in the blast of the explosion as the fuel tank blew, which drove a metal shard into his chest. Luckily enough the man he dragged remained unharmed.

She stared at them with a confused look on her face. Should she help? Should she run?

It took a while before the lucky man came to again. He tried sitting up, and more or less succeeded. He looked at the gunship in front of him, burning down in high flames, producing a lot of heat. Checking his belt, he confirmed his weapon was still with him and hadn't been lost. He turned around and leaned on his arm that wasn't hurt, crawling over to his friend, checking his pulse, to just find out he was gone.

She saw the guy, and had already known he was gone...no one could survive that...she lowered her head, sad to have seen his death. She laid back down, not knowing whether to help the other person.

After a minute or two, the man gathered his strength and stood up, for as far he could. He checked on his weapon, making sure it still was operational, then gathered what he could find on still usable supplies, such as rations or ammo.

She decided to help, and stood up. She'd get nowhere being as shy as she was...her powers wer her...not anyone else...

As he heard her approach, he quickly grabbed his weapon and pointed it at the girl, falling on his knee, unable to stay up. The somewhat mechanical voice came out of the helmet. "Who are you, citizen?" Blood was visible on his armor, coming from his left shoulder and not seeming to stop that well.

She saw his reaction, and held up her hands. "I-I'm only here to help..." She stopped approaching.

He lowered the weapon a slight bit. "What brings you all the way here. Young girls shouldn't be here..."

She looked away. He had a point. "I...came out here...to think."

Staying as clear headed as he could in his current state, he observed her. "How good are you with medical supplies."

"I...know the basic stuff..." She looked at him. "...why?"

He took off the shoulder pad on his left arm, the texture of the underneath hidden suit drenched in red. "I'll need the help."

She looked at the wound, and walked up to him. "Okay..." She looked around for the supplies he mentioned.

He set down a bag which he had filled before, the content falling out as it fell over. "Those are the supplies I managed to salvage. It's all we have left."

She nodded, and started treating the wound, making sure not to overdo it. "Wh-what happened? I-If you don't mind me asking?"

He took the helmet off, placing it down on the ground next to him. He had short black hair, and a scar over his right eye. "It was a trainings mission. Fly over, grab the target item, and go back. Just what wasn't said is that wed have to actually fight our way through an Umbrian Patrol. On of the buggers even followed us, to the point where he damaged one of our engines. Well, we've managed to keep her up in the air long enough, now shes lying there, pieces all over the place."

Umbrian? What were these guys doing? She finished dressing the wound, and sat down in front of him. She looked at the transport...it seemed rather old.

He rubbed his forehead a bit, then looked at her. "Thank you, miss. Not sure if Id made it without you. What's your name, if I may ask?"

She looked off into the distance. "My work...plus everything that's...been happening around me lately."

"Need a break, I reckon. Many comrades in training have what they call a burn out. Too much pressure. They're sent off for a break, and come back when they're refreshed."

"It's...not like that. Call it...divided loyalties..." She looked at him. "...the people I work for...let's just put it that they're the kind that always get what they want...if they don't..." She hoped he got the message.
